A community-focused newspaper was struggling with their finances.  Running on a shoestring budget they couldn’t figure out how to get everything done on time with such limited staff and resources.  Rather than taking on their finances directly, we conducted an assessment focusing on their financial policies and processes.  By interviewing all stakeholders and reviewing existing documentation, we were able to identify several areas of inefficiency and point the team in the right direction on how to improve upon in these areas.  We then codified these notes along with their existing policies into a Financial Policies & Procedures Manual that would become their northstar for both policy and accountability.
